After giving his farewell speech, 2008-'09 Student Government Association President Cody Bourque took his seat so that Kayla Wingfield could be sworn in as president by Dean of Students Chris Maggio. Bourque said the inauguration ceremony served as a big wake-up call for him.

Faculty, students take home Research Day honors
The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs presented this year's Mildred Hart Bailey Faculty Awards to Holly Stave, professor of English at the Louisiana Scholars' College, and Matthew DeFord, an assistant professor of art at NSU. "I was humbled. I felt very honored that I'd be recognized as a faculty member in that right," DeFord said.

Professor receives LA Distinguished Counselor Educator Award

Professor receives LA Distinguished Counselor Educator Award
Gerra Perkins of the College of Education was honored with the Louisiana Distinguished Counselor Educator Award for her efforts to promote counselor education and counseling as a profession. In addition to serving in the counseling master's degree program at Northwestern State and teaching in the Student Personnel Services Program, Perkins was also recognized for her leadership in student projects and grant writing.

Graduating seniors to attend luncheon, network with alumni

The Student Alumni Association will be celebrating the NSU's graduating seniors May 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the university's first Senior Transition Luncheon. Being held in the Friedman Student Union Ballroom, the luncheon will have a short program, which will include an alumni speaker who has not yet been decided.
