The City of Natchitoches Police Department joined the Louisiana State Police in cracking down on railroad crossing safety Monday morning.

The two departments had officers posted at the multiple railroad crossings that weave through Natchitoches for more than three hours Monday.

In their records that are released annually to the public, the NSU University Police reported a drastic decline in the university's crime rate in 2007.

According to the report published in NSU's 2008-2009 Student Handbook, the number of total thefts, burglaries, batteries and drug offenses in 2007 was the lowest it had been since 2003 - the last year provided in the handbook.

The Student Government Association approved a bill Monday to reduce the future scholarship amount given to the organization's executive board - the president, vice president and treasurer - by about $3,000.

Currently, SGA President Cody Bourque said the scholarship he receives waives him of paying tuition, room and board, student fees and a $900 meal plan.

Despite the late starting time (7:53 p.m., to be exact) the pageant started and went rather well. The theme of the event was "A Tour of Egypt" and our appointed tour guides were Alonzo Blalock and Diseree Smith-Clark.

The tour started off with a very entertaining dance number set to the up beat tune "Just Got Paid" by Johnny Kemp.
